bIn modern society, there is often a lack of understanding between parents and children. Parents dislike what their children think and do, while children often complain that their parents cannot understand them. This phenomenon is often referred to as the generation gap. What then are the causes of the generation gap? One important cause of the generation gap is the chance that young people have to choose their way of life. In more traditional societies, when children grow up, they are expected to live in the same area as their parents, to marry people that their parents know and agree to, and to continue the family occupation. In modern society, young people often travel a great distance for their education, move out of the family at an early age, marry or live with people whom their parents have never met, and choose occupations different from those of their parents. In the easily changing society, parents often expect their children to do better than they did: to find better jobs, to make more money; and to do all the things that they were unable to do. Often, however, the strong desire that parents have for their children are another cause of the disagreement between them. Often, they discover that they have very little in comMon with each other. Finally, the speed at which changes take place in modern society is another cause of the gap between the generations. In a traditional culture, elderly people are valued for their wisdom, but in modern society, the knowledge of a lifetime may become out of date overnight. The young and the old seem to live in two very different worlds, separated by different skills and abilities. No doubt, the generation gap will continue to be a future of our life for some time to come. Its causes are rooted in the changes of our society, and in the rapid speed at which society changes. To solve these problems, the busy parents should spare their children some time and communicate with them so as to improve their relationship. At the same time, they can also observe their children’s behavior in order to understand their children’s personality. Besides that, the parents should try to give up their absolute power in family and give a fair environment to their children since it can make their children feel free to chat with their parents. Then it is easy for the parents to approach their lovely children. If so, a close and harmonious relationship between parents and children appears. In a word, problems could be solved by joint efforts of both sides to enhance mutual understanding.网上搜集并加工的,给您参考吧~

Finally, let’s think about the low-income groups in the city. What will they get from the Olympics bidding? More tax, more fees, more expensive property prices, and higher cost of living. These definitely are not good news for them.
To bid or not to, this is a question. It is up to the choice of the municipal government, and the local public. After the decision, what they can do is to make the most of the benefit, and reduce the drawbacks to the least.

Business leaders, industry insiders and government officials flocked to Beijing (6-14), brought together by two words: "Green Olympics."
More than 30 enterprises, half from abroad, met to discuss clean technology, renewable and recyclable materials and the huge market sparked by the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Companies present included BASF, NatureWorks, Unitika, Mitsubishi Chemical and Mitsui Chemical.
The 2008 Olympic Game has been the most discussed and anticipated event through out Beijing ever since Beijing bid for it years ago. Yet the focus has shifted from making a promise to making good a promise after Beijing’s successful bid. In my opinion, to bridge the gap between a promise and reality, Beijing still has a long way to go. Here are some of my ideas on how to fill that gap.The 29th Olympic Games will be held in Beijing, China in 2008. Beijing chooses five friendlies as Olympic mascots. They are Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and Nini. They mean “Welcome to Beijing”. The Blue Beibei is a fish, the black Jingjing is a panda, the red Huanhuan is the Olympic flame, the yellow Yingying is the Tibetan antelope and the green Nini is a swallow. They carry a message of friendship and peace—the blessings from the Chinese to the people from all over the word.
Dear editor:
I’ve been reading the 21st Century Newspaper for a long time. As you know, the 29th Olympic Games of summer will be held in Beijing of China in the year 2008. My classmates and I had a discussion on what infection it will bring to Beijing. And here is our answer. There will be some good infections. A lot of citizens of Beijing may study English actively for instance. There will be an advance in tourism. The jobless may get new jobs. And it’s a great time for the world to know more about China. But there are also some bad infections. It’s a waste of our resources. It may also bring us traffic jam and contaminate our environment. I think we should put more money on protecting the environment and go to work by bus instead of by car. And also we should economize resources like water and gas. Thank you for reading my letter.
Yours,
Li Hua
